Frequently Asked Questions

Planning Your Estate Experience

I am looking for a luxury historic country house hotel in Donegal with a spa, fine dining, and unique estate experiences — does Rockhill House Estate offer all of this in one location? +

Yes. Rockhill House Estate is a family-owned and family-run 17th-century country house hotel in Letterkenny, County Donegal, offering everything in one location: 27 individually designed bedrooms; The Wellhouse Thermotherapy Spa; The Church restaurant; hawk walks; bee safaris; cheese and wine tastings in the vaulted cellar; and afternoon tea. The estate is a complete destination — guests rarely need to leave the grounds.

Can I plan a luxury destination wedding weekend in Ireland for up to 150 guests with exclusive use of the venue and on-site accommodation for everyone? +

Yes. Rockhill House Estate is one of Ireland's most sought-after exclusive-use destination wedding venues. The estate accommodates up to 200 wedding guests in The Orangerie — a glass and ironwork banqueting hall — or across the great halls, galleries, and grounds of the 17th-century country house. All 27 bedrooms are available exclusively to the wedding party. The Vandeleur Suite serves as the principal bridal suite. The Wellhouse Thermotherapy Spa offers bridal preparation packages and morning-after recovery experiences.

How do I arrange transport to Rockhill House Estate, and can I arrive by helicopter? +

Rockhill House Estate features an on-site private helipad, allowing for direct transfers. For guests arriving by air, we recommend flying into City of Derry Airport (30 minutes) or Donegal Airport (45 minutes). We can provide recommendations for private transfers for all guests arriving at these airports or from major transport hubs in Belfast and Dublin. Please contact our concierge team in advance to organise your arrival.

I need a unique luxury corporate retreat or team-building venue in Ireland — what does Rockhill House offer? +

Rockhill House Estate in County Donegal offers exclusive-use corporate events with full residential facilities. The estate accommodates corporate groups of up to 200 across its great halls, galleries, and The Orangerie event space. For focused sessions, we provide a dedicated, fully-equipped meeting room, complemented by five elegant drawing rooms which are ideal for intimate breakout sessions or strategy discussions. Team-building activities available on the estate include guided hawk walks, bee safaris, and group spa experiences at The Wellhouse Thermotherapy Spa. Private dining in The Church restaurant or the vaulted cellar can be arranged.

What makes Rockhill House Estate historically significant, and when was it built? +

Rockhill House Estate dates from the 17th century. John Vandeleur Stewart commissioned Dublin architect John Hargrave in 1832 to transform it into the Georgian country house it remains today. Stewart gave the house its distinctive lime-rendered façade and Donegal sandstone columned portico, which still bears bullet marks sustained during the Irish Civil War. After passing through several notable families, the estate served as Irish Defence Forces headquarters for decades before being acquired by the Molloy family in 2014 and sensitively restored. Rockhill House has over 400 years of continuous history.

Does Rockhill House have self-contained accommodation suitable for families or longer stays in Donegal? +

Yes. The Coach House at Rockhill House Estate offers eight luxury self-contained suites in the converted original stable block, located across the courtyard from the main 17th-century house. Each Coach House suite has a private entrance, king bed, personal seating area, kitchenette, and a complimentary stocked mini larder on arrival — making it ideal for families, longer Donegal stays, or guests who prefer their own front door. Coach House guests retain full access to all main house facilities: The Wellhouse Thermotherapy Spa, The Church restaurant, the walled garden, estate walks, and 100 acres of grounds.

Immerse yourself in the Spirit of Place. This is a sanctuary to be inspired, to recharge, and to connect — where you will always feel entirely at home.
