The Property
Rockhill House Estate
Rockhill House was built in the early 17th century and extended in 1832 under architect John Hargrave. After decades as the headquarters of the Irish Defence Forces in Donegal, the estate was acquired by the Molloy family in 2014 and painstakingly restored to create a luxury hotel and events venue of genuine character.
The house retains its original proportions, its period features, and the sense of place that four centuries of history provides. No two bedrooms are the same. Every public room has a fire. The grounds — woodland walks, a walled garden, beehives, a dipping pond — are as much a part of the experience as the house itself.
This is not a hotel that happens to be in an old building. It is a living estate, run by a family who know every room, every story, and every walking trail.

27 Bedrooms Across Two Buildings
Every room at Rockhill House has been individually designed to reflect a different aspect of the estate’s history. No two rooms are identical. All include luxury en-suite bathrooms, high-quality linens, and estate views.
19 Rooms · 17th-Century Country House
The Main House
Nineteen individually designed bedrooms, each with its own personality and interpretation of the estate’s heritage. Period features throughout — original fireplaces, high ceilings, deep sash windows — combined with contemporary luxury finishes. Several rooms overlook the formal gardens; others face the ancient woodland.
Room types include standard doubles, superior doubles, deluxe rooms, junior suites, and the Lough Swilly Suite. All rooms are en-suite with luxury linens and amenities.
8 Rooms · Converted Stable Block
The Coach House
Eight stylish guest rooms in the converted original coach house and stable block, sympathetically restored to preserve the character of the outbuildings while delivering modern comfort. Ground-floor rooms with direct garden access make these particularly suited to guests who value independence and outdoor space.
All Coach House rooms are en-suite doubles with private entrances and estate views.

On the Estate
Dining, Spa & Facilities
Restaurant & Bar
The Church
The estate’s principal dining space, housed in the former Defence Forces recreation hall — a striking vaulted room with original features. Serving breakfast daily and dinner using local Donegal produce. Private dining available for groups. The bar stocks Crolly Distillery whiskey — Donegal’s first licensed distillery in 180 years, based in the Gaeltacht village of Croithlí.
Spa & Treatments
The Wellhouse
A dedicated spa and treatment facility in the converted grain store, offering a range of treatments including massages, facials, and body wraps. The Wellhouse Spa Day experience and Circle of Friends group spa packages are popular with tour groups. An ideal addition to any itinerary for guests seeking rest and restoration alongside exploration.
Meetings & Events
Private & Corporate
Multiple private reception rooms for meetings, dinners, and events. The Drawing Room, Library, and Dining Room can each be configured for private use. Full AV support available on request. The estate is a natural fit for incentive travel, senior leadership retreats, and corporate away days that require something beyond a conference centre.
Experiences
On the Estate — Without Leaving the Grounds
A significant part of the Rockhill offering is what guests can do without leaving the estate. For tour itineraries and group stays, these experiences can be arranged in advance and packaged into the programme.
Hawk Walks
A guided falconry experience through the ancient woodland of the estate. Guests walk with and fly Harris Hawks in their natural habitat. One of the most distinctive experiences available at any hotel in Ireland and consistently the most talked-about by guests who do it.
Bee Safari
A guided experience with Frank Chaney, Rockhill’s estate beekeeper, exploring the hives in the walled garden and learning the story of the estate’s bees and honey production. Suited to all ages and a genuine highlight for groups who want something they cannot find elsewhere.
Woodland & Estate Walks
Self-guided and guided walks through 100 acres of ancient woodland, meadow, and formal gardens in the hills above Letterkenny, overlooking the River Swilly valley. Walking routes of varying length and difficulty can be arranged as a guided group experience.
Cheese & Wine Tasting
A private cheese and wine tasting in the cellar of the house — a natural cave-like space beneath the original 17th-century structure. Available as an evening activity for small groups or as part of a wider private dining event.
Yoga & Wellbeing
Morning yoga sessions in the estate’s starry temple, a glass-roofed space on the grounds. Available for groups as a morning start or as part of a wellness itinerary. Combines naturally with The Wellhouse spa treatments for a full day of restoration.
Croquet & Lawn Games
Croquet on the formal lawn, garden games, and outdoor leisure on the estate grounds. Available to all guests and easily incorporated into afternoon programmes for groups. The walled garden provides a particularly fine setting in good weather.
Location & Access
The Best Base in the North West
Rockhill sits in the hills above Letterkenny, at the point where the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route are both within reach in the same day. Few properties in Ireland offer this combination of access.

For Wedding Planners
Rockhill House as a Wedding Venue
Rockhill House is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Ireland. For wedding planners working with couples who want something genuinely unique — a historic private estate, full exclusive use, 27 bedrooms, and a team who can deliver at the highest level — this is the venue to know.
Exclusive Use
The Full Estate
All 27 bedrooms, all reception rooms, the restaurant, the walled garden, and the grounds. Wedding parties have the estate entirely to themselves — no other guests, no shared spaces.
Ceremony Venues
Civil & Humanist
Civil and humanist ceremonies in the Drawing Room, Library, or gardens. The estate’s setting — ancient woodland, formal gardens, views over the River Swilly valley — provides a natural ceremony backdrop unlike anything a purpose-built venue can offer.
Destination Weddings
International Couples
A growing number of couples choose Rockhill from overseas — from the US, UK, Australia, and across Europe. We have significant experience supporting international guests and can work directly with your planning team from the earliest stages.
Multi-Day Celebrations
Weekend Weddings
The estate is well suited to full-weekend celebrations — welcome drinks on Friday, the wedding on Saturday, a relaxed Sunday lunch before guests depart. The on-site experiences, woodland, and The Wellhouse spa give the weekend a structure that goes beyond the ceremony itself.
