ABOUT ROCKHILL HOUSE ESTATE

Letterkenny, County Donegal

A Spirit of Place

Rockhill House Estate sits in 100 acres of ancient woodland in the hills above Letterkenny, County Donegal. It is a 17th-century country house, sensitively restored and genuinely alive — a place that is faithful to its Georgian past and thoroughly engaged with the present.

This is not a hotel that happens to be in a historic building. It is a historic family home that has been opened to the world by a family and team who care — and that distinction is felt from the moment you turn up the long beech-lined drive to the door.

The Estate

The House & Its Grounds

17th century, faithfully restored, entirely yours

As you wind your way up the long beech-lined avenue, something shifts. You are not arriving at a venue or a hotel. You are arriving at a house — one that has gathered people together across three centuries, and that carries the kind of character no amount of renovation can manufacture.

The great halls and galleries are filled with light. The original cornices, ceiling roses, spiraling staircase, ironwork, and fireplaces have been restored and, where time had taken them, carefully replicated. The formal gardens, the fountain, the walled kitchen garden, the ancient woodland — all of it maintained to the same standard as the house itself.

Rockhill House is available as a hotel, bookable by individual guests or booked exclusively for private use — for weddings, corporate events, and family gatherings where the whole estate is yours alone.

Heading South & West

Donegal & the Wild Atlantic Way

The world’s longest defined coastal touring route

Rockhill House is an ideal base for exploring County Donegal and the Wild Atlantic Way — 2,500 km of Atlantic coastline spanning the western seaboard of Ireland, and named by National Geographic Traveller as one of the coolest places on the planet.

From Rockhill, Slieve League Cliffs — among the highest sea cliffs in Europe — are within reach. Glenveagh National Park is 20 minutes away. The Atlantic coast, the coastal islands, the sea fishing, the food culture, the music and dance traditions, and some of Ireland’s finest links golf courses are all within easy range of the estate.

Our team are always on hand to help you plan what you want to see and arrange whatever the day requires.

Heading North & East

The Causeway Coastal Route

Derry, the Antrim Coast & Belfast

What makes Rockhill House unusual among Donegal estates is its position at the gateway to two of Ireland’s great touring routes. Heading north, the Causeway Coastal Route begins just over half an hour away at the historic walled city of Derry — and from there takes you along one of the most dramatic coastlines in Europe.

The 154-mile route runs from Derry via the Mussenden Temple at Downhill, the ruined Dunluce Castle, the filming locations used in Game of Thrones, and the epic Giant’s Causeway — all the way into Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital city.

Few bases in the North West give you access to both routes. Rockhill House does.

The Family Behind the House

The Molloy Family

Rockhill House is owned and run by the Molloy family (spanning 3 generations - though the youngest is still learning their ABCs and exploring the Estate), who took the keys in 2014 and spent three years restoring the house from near-ruin to what it is today. It is a historic family home that happens to be open to guests — not a corporate property managed at a distance, but a place that is personally cared for and personally run.

Every enquiry is answered by the family or one of the team who care for this special place with just as much passion. Every detail of the estate reflects a decision the family made to ensure the future of this place and to reflect the Spirit of Place you feel at every turn. The warmth of the welcome at Rockhill is not a standard — it is a disposition.
