A Rockhill Beekeeping Experience like no other….

Estate Experience  ·  Donegal

Bee Safari &
Honey Tasting

Curious about the secret life of bees? Perhaps you have established a bee-friendly patch at home and want to know more. Or maybe you simply love honey and want to understand the differences between what lands on your plate at breakfast and everything else that calls itself the same thing.

At Rockhill House Estate, our expert beekeeper Frank Chaney will take you up close and personal with our native Irish black honeybees — through the gardens and ancient woodland, into the hives, and on to a tasting session unlike anything you will find in a shop.

The Experience

What the Safari Includes

A full guided experience led by Frank Chaney, Rockhill House Estate Beekeeper. Every session covers the bees, the hives, the honey, and everything in between.

Garden & Woodland Tour

Walk through the estate gardens and ancient woodland with Frank, discovering what our native Irish black honeybees forage on throughout the seasons and how the landscape of Rockhill shapes the honey they produce.

Full Hive Inspection

Beside Frank at the hive, you will see exactly what the bees are doing inside — how they organise themselves, how the honey is made, and how a beekeeper reads the hive. A full inspection, not a distant observation.

Honey Extraction & Beekeeping

Learn about beekeeping practices and honey extraction in detail — including the equipment involved and what setting up your own hive actually requires. Useful whether you are curious or genuinely considering it.

Hive Products

See samples of the full range of products the hive produces beyond honey — bee pollen, beeswax candles, lip balm, soap, and beeswax wraps. The breadth of what a single hive yields is something most people have never considered.

Honey Tasting Session

A guided tasting of different honeys with Frank, learning what distinguishes one from another — by origin, by forage, by season. The honey from our own hives is the same honey that arrives on your breakfast table in the morning as part of our Taste of Rockhill.
